About The Coffee

There’s a 1-in-3 chance the coffee in your cup is from Brazil. It’s a huge country with a staggering coffee export — over 33% percent of the world’s coffee supply comes out of Brazil — and that doesn’t include the coffee they keep to drink themselves. Brazil has been at the top of the coffee export chain since the early 1800s when coffee farming overtook sugarcane as a cash crop.

This coffee is from the Region Campos Gerais, Sul de Minas, Minas Gerais.

Conscientious:
Fazenda Sete Cachoeiras is the first carbon-neutral certified coffee estate in the south of Minas Gerais. The estate is heavily invested in transforming the multigenerational land into a sustainable agricultural powerhouse and is continuously modernizing production processes to strengthen coffee quality, social development, and environmental responsibility.

In 2021, the estate evaluated the emissions produced by all agricultural activities and energy usage on the farm, and determined that every bag of coffee produced had a carbon footprint of 0.06 tCO2. The report, put together by Carbonext, spanned all greenhouse gas emissions internationally regulated by the Kyoto Protocol, including carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, propane, etc.

Through Verra’s Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) program, Fazenda Sete Cachoeiras offset its greenhouse gas emissions by retiring 38 Verified Carbon Units (VCUs) from the Envira Amazonia Project. The forest conservation program is based in the State of Acre and covers nearly 200,000 hectares of tropical rainforest. The project is one of the biggest Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Degradation (REDD+) projects in the world and will result in net positive climate, community, and biodiversity benefits.
